About Our Service

The Coombe Hospital provides expert antenatal physiotherapy services to support women during pregnancy and after birth. You may be referred to our specialised team for support with pelvic pain, back pain, and pelvic floor concerns. We offer free antenatal and postnatal classes, and we have created a series of videos to support your physical health and wellbeing during and after pregnancy.

Online Physiotherapy Pregnancy Classes

Introduction to Pregnancy Class

Alternating Fridays | 11.00am - 12.15pm

This class is suitable for those who are 15 weeks gestation - 22 weeks gestation. Topics covered include the normal bodily changes in pregnancy, back care, normal bowel and bladder habits and the benefits and practise of safe exercise in pregnancy. We will also provide advice on the management of common discomforts in pregnancy.

Physiotherapy Antenatal Class

Every Thursday | 2.00pm - 4.00pm

This class is recommended after 24 weeks in preparation for labour.

Exercising In Pregnancy

Exercising during your pregnancy will increase your energy levels, improve your mood, aid sleep patterns, improve posture, prevent backache and help to support healthy weight gain over the course of your pregnancy.

Lower Back Pain & Pelvic Girdle Pain

This video will provide you with tips and advice to manage lower back and pelvic girdle pain.


Low Back Pain & Pelvic Pain Exercises

In this video we demonstrate exercises that will help you to manage low back pain and pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy.


Perineal Massage

Perineal massage can help prepare the pelvic floor for labour and delivery. In this video, we explain how to perform perineal massage as you approach your due date.


Breathing In Labour

In the first stage of labour we can use our breathing as a powerful tool to help us feel relaxed, confident and comfortable.

In this video we outline some breathing techniques that will help you throughout your labour.


Exercise and advice during pregnancy

This booklet has been designed to advise you on:

  • Looking after your pelvic floor.

  • Exercising in pregnancy.

  • Managing common musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Preparing for labour and birth.

If you have any difficulty following the advice or exercises in this booklet, or find that your symptoms are not improving, please ask to be referred to the physiotherapy department by a member of your team.

Help & Support

  • Appointments:
    All appointments can be directed through Hospital reception: 01 408 5200, 24 hours a day

  • Health Insurance:
    We operate a direct payment scheme with VHI, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, Garda Medical Aid, ESB, Medical Provident Fund, and Prison Officers Medical Aid. If you are covered by any of these insurers, the relevant insurance forms are signed electronically on your admission to hospital.
