About Our Service

The Perioperative Medicine Department delivers comprehensive, patient-centred, and multidisciplinary care throughout the surgical and labour pathways.

Pregnant and gynaecological patients scheduled for elective surgical procedures receive thorough evaluations at our Preoperative Anaesthetic Assessment Clinic, where risk factors are identified and strategies are planned to optimise care.

In the operating theatre, our role extends beyond administering anaesthesia, as we apply individualised, evidence-based practices to ensure safe and high-quality of care. Our perioperative services continue into the immediate recovery period, supporting the return of physiological functions to their pre-operative state. Daily pain and epidural rounds are conducted to monitor patients' recovery and ensure their continued progress.

As obstetric anaesthesiologists, we provide comprehensive pain relief options for women in labour, such as labour epidurals and Remifentanil infusions.

Additionally, we play a key role in assessing and managing acute changes in patient conditions by facilitating timely escalation of care. From antenatal education and preoperative assessments to monitored intraoperative and intrapartum care and postnatal follow-up, our team is dedicated to delivering safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred care.
