About Our Service

The Options in Pregnancy Service provides confidential, non-judgemental support for women between 9 and 12 weeks of pregnancy who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. We offer guidance on available options and provide clinical care for those considering or undergoing early medical abortion. The service also supports women who experience suspected complications following early medical abortion in the community, ensuring timely assessment, treatment, and emotional support.

Termination of Pregnancy Services

We provide compassionate, hospital-based care for women with specific medical needs related to termination of pregnancy, including:

Terminations between 9–12 weeks gestation (under Section 12 of the Health Act 2018).

Women with medical conditions unsuitable for community-based abortion.

Follow-up care for suspected complications after early medical abortion.

If you have decided that you do not want to continue your pregnancy, contact myoptions and they will give you the contact details of a GP/ women’s health doctor who will manage your care.

If for any reason, you require hospital based care, the GP/ women’s health doctor will refer you to our service.

If you choose to attend our service your confidentiality will be maintained at all times.

FAQs

  • By law in Ireland, you must be less than 12 weeks pregnant to request a termination of pregnancy (abortion) unless there are special circumstances. If you have decided that you do not want to continue your pregnancy, contact myoptions and they will give you the contact details of a GP/ women’s health doctor who will manage your care.

  • If for any reason, you require hospital based care, the GP/ women’s health doctor will refer you to our service.

  • If you have a positive low sensitivity test 2 weeks following medical termination/abortion, If your GP/Women health doctor decides you have not had enough bleeding or your bleeding is not settling following medical abortion, if you continue to have pregnancy symptoms.

  • You will meet the doctor and/or midwife, you will have a consultation and an ultrasound scan. The result of this will be explained to you and a follow up plan will be made. You will be given plenty of time to ask questions. You will be given written information about your visit and our contact details to call us if you need to.

  • For emergencies and complications following abortion, call or attend the main hospital on 01 408 5200. Our Emergency Assessment Unit is open 24/7.

    All appointments can be directed through Hospital reception: 01 408 5200, 24 hours a day

  • Health Insurance:
    We operate a direct payment scheme with VHI, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, Garda Medical Aid, ESB, Medical Provident Fund, and Prison Officers Medical Aid. If you are covered by any of these insurers, the relevant insurance forms are signed electronically on your admission to hospital.
