About Our Service

We provide care for women who have received a definitive diagnosis of endometriosis from stages 1-3. Our service is consultant led, supported by a compassionate multidisciplinary team to include non consultant hospital doctors, clinical nurse specialist, physiotherapist, dietician and pain management specialist.

A referral is required to access this service.

Please note if you have a diagnosis of stage 4 endometriosis, you will need to be referred to a Supra-Regional Endometriosis Centre at Cork University Hospital or Tallaght University Hospital.

What Is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue, similar to the inner lining of the uterus, grows in places it doesn’t belong. It can affect the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and the tissue lining the pelvis.

Endometriosis affects c. 1 in 10 women and can cause significant pain which impacts on day to day life.

What Are The Symptoms?

While endometriosis can cause significant pain for some people, others only discover the condition when undergoing investigations for another reason such as infertility. There is no correlation between the symptoms and severity of the condition.

Our Care Approach

Care is provided holistically with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach, both medically and surgically.

The clinical team is supported by pain specialists, along with a specialist physiotherapist, dietician and psychologist.

What Does Treatment Involve?

Diagnosis can be challenging, often involving ultrasounds, pelvic exams, and sometimes laparoscopy. There is no cure, but treatment can help you manage symptoms, and may include:
