About Our Service
The pre-term birth prevention clinic is a consultation clinic for those at an increased risk of pre-term birth . The clinic is run by a consultant obstetrician with a special interest in pre-term birth. The clinic offers a personalised pre-term birth risk assessment and a tailored treatment and surveillance plan in order to achieve optimal pregnancy outcomes. The clinic usually sees people from early in the second trimester of pregnancy through to the third trimester. Care is provided in conjunction with the primary antenatal team.
Pre-term birth risk assessment usually involves assessment of the shape and size of the cervix by transvaginal ultrasound as well as analysis of vaginal swabs and urine. Treatments offered include progesterone supplementation and placement of cervical stitches (cervical cerclage). Referral to the clinic can be made by any healthcare provider following a booking appointment in early pregnancy.

There are a number of consultant obstetricians offering services through our private clinic. Antenatal care fees vary between consultants..

Health Insurance:
We operate a direct payment scheme with VHI, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, Garda Medical Aid, ESB, Medical Provident Fund, and Prison Officers Medical Aid. If you are covered by any of these insurers, the relevant insurance forms are signed electronically on your admission to hospital.
