Along with providing maternity services to c. 10,000 women each year, The Coombe Hospital is Ireland’s largest provider of benign gynaecology services, delivering comprehensive, specialist care across a broad range of women's health conditions - ensuring compassionate, expert care from adolescence through to post-menopause. The Coombe Hospital takes referrals from GPs and other healthcare professionals.

Adolescent Gynaecology Clinic
One of only three hospitals in Ireland with a dedicated Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG) service. The PAG team (Consultant and SpR) at The Coombe Hospital also attend the PAG clinic in CHI at Temple Street, where care is offered to younger patients.
Referrals include menstrual concerns, ovarian masses, differences in sexual development (DSDs), Mullerian anomalies, delayed puberty or primary amenorrhoea and premature ovarian insufficiency. A significant proportion of referrals are for adolescents with additional developmental needs who require specialist input for the management of their menstrual issues.
The clinic sees patients from the age of 12 upwards and the hospital offers admission for theatre where required from the age of 15 upwards.
General Gynaecology Clinic
A wide range of outpatient and inpatient services are available for women of all ages with gynaecological problems to include abnormal, irregular or no bleeding, POS, abnormal vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, dyspareunia, vulval skin concerns, post coital bleeding, women with bleeding disorders.
Complex Menopause Clinic
Open to women with medical conditions that make it complicated to offer HRT treatment in primary care. These include women with a past or current diagnosis of: VTE (Venous Thromboembolism), endometriosis, immunological diseases inc HIV, ischemic heart disease, epilepsy, liver disease, stroke, premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and cancer, particularly reproductive cancers.
Enhanced Endometriosis Clinic
Provides care for women who have received a definitive diagnosis of endometriosis from stages 1-4. Care is provided holistically with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach, both medically and surgically. The clinical team is supported by pain specialists, along with a specialist physiotherapist and dietician.
Fibroid Clinic
Offers specialist management for women whose quality life is impacted by symptoms caused by fibroids, providing a multidisciplinary team approach to care: collaborating with consultant gynaecologists, consultant radiologists, fertility consultants, specialist nurses, physiotherapists and external hospital partners.
Colposcopy Clinic
Operates in association with Cervical Check, The National Screening Service. Women who have an abnormal screening test or who are recurrently HPV positive are referred by their Screening Test taker, usually a GP or Women’s Health Specialist.
Hysteroscopy Clinic
A dedicated clinic to investigate and treat women, over the age of 40 who are experiencing unexplained vaginal bleeding.
Urogynaecology Clinic
Offers coordinated holistic care to cover all the aspects of female urinary incontinence and utero-vaginal prolapse. Women are offered a comprehensive range of treatment options from conservative treatments to advanced surgical procedures if appropriate.
Recurrent Miscarriage Service
Dedicated to supporting women and families during a challenging and emotional time. Our team provides compassionate, specialised care to help manage the physical and emotional impact of pregnancy loss. We offer diagnostic assessments, tailored treatment options, and follow-up care to support recovery and provide clarity for future pregnancies.
Fertility Hub
Offers a wide range of investigations and tests for couples experiencing difficulties conceiving. Our dedicated team is committed to providing compassionate and patient-centred care.
Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive Service
Offers a range of effective, low-maintenance contraception options, including coils (IUDs) and implants. Our experienced team provides personalised consultations, insertions, and follow-up care, helping women choose the method that best suits their lifestyle and reproductive goals.
Options in Pregnancy Service
Provides confidential, non-judgemental support for women between 9 and 12 weeks of pregnancy who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. The service also supports women who experience suspected complications following early medical abortion in the community, ensuring timely assessment, treatment, and emotional support.
Validation
Every year we validate the gynaecology waiting list to ensure all those waiting still need an appointment. If we received no response from your patient, we will inform you that they are being removed from the waiting list. If you feel they should remain on the list, please contact us on 01 408 5417 or validation@coombe.ie. If your patients contact details change, please let us know.

We operate a direct payment scheme with VHI, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, Garda Medical Aid, ESB, Medical Provident Fund, and Prison Officers Medical Aid. If you are covered by any of these insurers, the relevant insurance forms are signed electronically on your admission to hospital.
