About Our Service

The Infection Prevention and Control Department promotes best practice in infection prevention to support the delivery of a safe, high‑quality service for all patients, visitors, and staff.

Our team includes a consultant microbiologist, infection prevention and control midwifery specialists, an antimicrobial pharmacist and a microbiology surveillance scientist who monitors incidences, analyses antimicrobial resistance trends and tracks circulating bacteria and viral pathogens in both hospital and community settings.

The team advises on infection risks and preventive measures; however, strict adherence to infection‑prevention practices is the collective responsibility of staff, patients and visitors.

Our Key Deliverables

Hand Hygiene: Use Alcohol Hand Gel or Wash Your Hands

Alcohol hand gel is available at the hospital entrance, on all wards, and throughout clinical and outpatient areas. Please use the gel when entering and leaving the hospital. It should also be used before and after any contact with the patient you are visiting. Hand hygiene is essential after coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose, or disposing of tissues. There are times when soap and water must be used instead of alcohol gel, such as when hands are visibly soiled, after using the toilet, or whenever advised by staff.

Personal Hygiene

Please keep up with your personal hygiene during your stay. Regular washing or showering helps reduce bacteria on the skin and supports good infection‑prevention practices.

Keep Your Bed Space Clear

To help maintain a clean and safe environment, patients are asked to keep their bed area free of clutter and to cooperate with hospital cleaning staff when they need to clean around the bed space.

Please bring only essential personal items into the hospital and store them in the lockers provided.

The hospital cannot store patients’ own food. We also advise against bringing perishable items into the ward area.

Wearing Shoes or Slippers

Please wear slippers when walking around the wards. This helps keep your feet clean and reduces the risk of transferring bacteria from the floor to your bed.

Patient Experience

Every patient’s path to diagnosis and treatment is individual. No matter your specific journey, we believe in empowering you to take an active role in your healthcare.
