About Our Service

The Coombe Hospital is one of the largest providers of womens healthcare in the Republic of Ireland. We care for up to 8,000 pregnant women every year. Our Antenatal Outpatient Department runs a comprehensive range of public, semi-private and specialist clinics.

In line with the National Maternity Strategy (2016) The Coombe Hospital provides three separate maternity care pathways;

  1. Supported Care.

  2. Assisted Care.

  3. Specialised Care.

Women are offered choice regarding their preferred pathway of care, in line with safety, their clinical needs and best practice. Insofar as possible, all care pathways support the normalisation of pregnancy and birth. We have a dedicated midwifery and healthcare-assistant team who support women and their partners on their pregnancy journey. In conjunction with our Consultant led Obstetric clinics we also run specialised clinics such as Multiple Birth, GUIDE, Pre-Term Birth and Medical Clinics. We hold 9 midwifery-led booking clinics and 6 antenatal Midwifery clinics per week. Our experienced doctors and midwives work closely with the wider hospital multidisciplinary team to ensure women have a safe and positive pregnancy experience.

Our Outpatients Gynaecology department provides one of the largest and most comprehensive adult and adolescent gynaecology services in the country. Referral to our services is through a GP or via a specialist service in another hospital.

We are dedicated to delivering exceptional and personalised care to our patients with each consultant and clinical nurse specialist on our team specialising in different areas of gynaecology including fertility, benign gynaecology and female incontinence. For patients experiencing urological issues, we offer state-of-the-art urodynamic testing, carried out by our on-site urodynamic nurses.

We work closely with our colleagues in radiology, pathology and physiotherapy to ensure accurate diagnoses and tailored treatment plans for our patients. Our department is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centred care throughout each woman’s healthcare journey.
