If you wish to attend the Private Clinic

Maternity care in the private clinic

There are a number of consultant obstetricians offering private care. Please refer to the List of Consultants on the Quicklink on the right hand side of this page to find a consultant offering private care. If you have a particular consultant in mind whom you wish to look after you, we advise you to make early contact with his/her private secretary, as consultants can become fully booked up very quickly.

Antenatal care fees vary between consultants, and you may wish to research the differences in fees before coming to a final decision. Hospital charges for private patients, which are separate from the consultant's fee, can be found in the Hospital Charges section of this website, to the left hand side of this page. We strongly suggest that you contact your private health insurer to make sure you are aware of any fees or charges they will not cover, as you will be invoiced if you are not covered.

Once your booking is confirmed, your consultant will see you for each visit in his/her rooms in the Private Clinic, which is on the hospital campus. The exception to this is if you and your consultant decide on shared care between the hospital and your GP, or when your consultant is away on holiday and another consultant obstetrician is providing your care.

When the time comes for you to deliver your baby, the labour ward midwives will care for you and your consultant will be contacted to attend for the delivery of your baby.

Following the birth, private mothers recover in a single room in the private ward, unless they have to be accommodated in another bed until a single room becomes available.

Gynaecology care
