Friends of The Coombe & Coombe Care

Friends of the Coombe is a charity organisation established in 1982 to help raise funds to assist the development of the hospital. Over 700 medical, nursing, midwifery, research scientists and other staff are committed every day to providing world-class medical care for the needs of women and infants.

The Friends manage the donations and legacies made by patients, visitors and staff.

Funds raised by the Friends support three main areas in the hospital:

  • Maternity and Infant services
  • Gynaecology services
  • Research

Grants made by the Friends support a range of activities from the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment to the improvement of the hospital environment.

Your donation will be an investment in medical progress and the future of women and infant healthcare in Ireland.

Coombe Care is a voluntary Committee which works closely with the Medical Social Workers of the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital.

The Medical Social Workers identify patients who are in great need of assistance. Sadly, it is not unusual for some patients to experience severe difficulties in providing the basic essentials for a stay in hospital.

In such circumstances, Coombe Care provides items such as a towel, nightdress, face cloth, as well as necessities for the newborn baby.

Food vouchers are also provided for families who are in special need, especially at Christmas time.

The Committee is supported in their endeavours by various schools, individuals and Active Retirement Clubs, who knit and sew on behalf of the babies.
