Even if you've had a baby at the Coombe in the past, all maternity patients must fill in a Patient Registration Form. Please return the completed form to us in order to receive your first appointment. Click the word 'more' (below) to download a copy of the form.

More than one in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage. The fact that you have had a miscarriage does not necessarily mean that there is anything medically wrong with you or your partner. Sometimes it can happen very early in pregnancy, before you may even realise you are pregnant.

The majority of women who have a miscarriage carry on in the future to have successful, healthy pregnancies and babies.

The recognition that early pregnancy loss may have a significant, psychological impact on a woman and her partner has influenced the range of management options available for women with early pregnancy loss. Conservative medical and surgical treatments are available in accordance with national guidelines. The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) is a specialised clinic dedicated to providing care to women with complications associated with early pregnancy.  Additional information on the service provided by the EPAU can be found by clicking on the quicklink to the right hand side of this page.

Information is provided; the hospital has produced its own factsheet on miscarriage, which can be downloaded from the website's News and Publications section. Support is recommended through the Miscarriage Association  (

All women who miscarry are offered a follow-up appointment .

The Chaplaincy and Medical Social Work Departments will also see, by referral, those women needing additional support.

A small minority of women with a history of recurrent miscarriage, or who have had complications associated with miscarriage, will be followed up in a specialised outpatient clinic.
