Coombe goes live with Healthlink

The Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital is delighted to announce that it is now able to accept General Gynaecology eReferrals from General Practitioners through Healthlink, the HSE's national web based messaging project, which delivers IT solutions between GPs and hospitals.

This means GPs may now send electronic referrals for General Gynaecology services from within their practice management system, instead of sending cumbersome faxes, or getting their patients to deliver letters to the Coombe.

The great advantage for GPs is that much of the information they need to give the Coombe is auto populated, which greatly cuts down on the time to generate each referral. Another important advantage is that Healthlink allows the secure transmission of clinical patient information from each GP's surgery to the hospital.

From the Coombe's point of view, the advantage of being signed up to Healthlink is that each referral received will generate an automatic acknowledgement to confirm the referral has been successfully submitted.

Over three and a half thousand GPs nationwide are successfully using Healthlink and the Coombe, with the largest gynaecology service in the State, is one of the major maternity hospitals to go live. The rollout of eReferrals is being managed by the HSE's Primary Care IT Delivery Team who hope to have all hospitals live in 2016.
