Maternity Registration Form

Even if you've had a baby at the Coombe in the past, all maternity patients must fill in a Patient Registration Form. Please return the completed form to us in order to receive your first appointment. Click the word 'more' (below) to download a copy of the form.



The National Training Centre for Cervical Cytopathology is based at the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital, supported by CervicalCheck and the Faculty of Pathology, The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.


3 and 5 day courses are offered, in Spring and Autumn each year, for Specialist Registrars in Histopathology/Cytopathology, Nurse Colposcopists and Colposcopists-in-training. In addition, an embedded training course for Medical Scientists is being developed for launch in 2015.

The courses [offered by National and International Faculty (medical and scientific)] offer real-world experience of Gynae Cytopathology including:

  • cervical - normal cytology
  • infections
  • SILs
  • glandular lesions
  • mimics of dyskarosis
  • endrometrial
  • ovarian
  • vulval and
  • vaginal cytology.

In addition, the courses offer instruction in the Molecular Biology of the Femal Genital Tract including:

  • HPV testing
  • biomarker testing and
  • disease modelling.

A module on the Health Economics of Cervical Screening and Colposcopy is offered to all attendees.

An optional proficiency test is available for attendees to take at the end of each course.

This is the curriculum for the 2015 Gynae Cytopathology intensive training week course.



Attendees will be trained in a specially dedicated training facility, in a fully ISO 15189 accredited laboratory [cytopathology and HPV testing]. The facilities provided include:

  • individual microscopes
  • 10 multi-headed microscope facility for group discussion
  • cytopathology and histopathology slide sets and
  • access to the Molecular Pathology and Cytopathology Laboratories at the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital.

Each attendee will be provided with a USB key of the course curriculum, including all lectures, symposia and case file discussions.

Parking facilities will be provided for course attendees. For those visiting from outside the Dublin Metropolitan area, there are several reasonably priced hotels near to the training school. Information is available from the course contacts above.
