Admissions general information

The staff of the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital wish to ensure that every patient's stay with us is as comfortable as possible. The Hospital undertook a survey of patients to determine their visiting preferences, and as a result of this feedback, the following arrangements have been put in place.

GENERAL VISITING FOR ADULTS ONLY

There are two types of visiting cards - Pink or Cream. Visitors will be required to be in possession of one or other card whilst visiting the patient.

The Pink Visiting Card, previously known as the Nominated Visitor Card, will be issued in the name of the patient and becomes transferable. The person in possession of the Pink Visiting Card may visit between 9.00am and 8.30pm, however, we request that they leave the ward areas during Meal/Rest times.

Whilst the Pink Visiting Card is in use, other visitors wishing to visit a patient will need to obtain a Cream (Coloured) Visiting Card from the Security Desk in the Hospital Foyer, and may only visit between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Each patient will be allocated ONE card during General Visiting Time. Additional visitors will be unable to visit the patient until the previous visitor returns the  Cream card to Security staff in the Foyer.

 CHILDREN VISITING

3pm to 4pm daily. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult holding the patient's Pink Visiting Card. Visitors may not bring baby buggies to the wards or rooms in the hospital.

 MEAL/REST TIMES

There are two Meal/Rest Times during the course of the day:

  • 11.45am to 1.15pm
  • 4.00pm to 6.30pm

NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU)

Separate visiting policy in place for this area and is subject to change on clinical grounds.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES (e.g. Bereavement)

The hospital recognises that there may be exceptional circumstances whereby the normal visiting policy will be relaxed to accommodate individual patients, for example where a bereavement has occurred.

HYGIENE & INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL

  • Please use the hand sanitizers when entering and leaving the hospital, and on entering and leaving clinical areas
  • Please assist us in keeping the hospital campus clean and tidy by placing litter in the bins provided
  • Please use the Smoking Gazebo located at the front of the main hospital building if you find it necessary to smoke. This is the only designated area for smoking on the campus.
  • Space is limited on the wards so we ask that you arrange with your visitors to take home excess wrapping from gifts, or alternatively ask that any gifts are sent to your home
  • During Pandemics or outbreaks of viruses/infections in the community, the hospital may have to impose visiting restrictions at short notice.

ALCOHOL

The consumption of alcoholic beverages in the Hospital is not allowed.

SMOKING

In the interests of the welfare of patients, visitors and staff, smoking is not allowed in the grounds of the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital. Smoking during pregnancy may affect the health of you and your baby.
